The Association made its second visit of the year to Rhuddlan Golf Club on Sunday 23 August. Paul Boulton, President of the Association, thanked the 46 Past Captains and Lord Langford, President of Rhuddlan, for helping make his day special.

The President also ran the halfway house, where refreshments were warmly welcomed.

Phil Lloyd, Captain of Rhuddlan Golf Club, welcomed everyone and wished them an enjoyable round.

Paul thanked the caterers for the excellent meal and the bar staff for looking after the Association.

The course was in superb condition, which was reflected in several excellent scores.

To the relief of Treasurer Roy Fisher, only one birdie was recorded, with Islwyn Luke birdieing the 8th.

John Newsome of Rhuddlan GC won nearest the pin on the 8th.

The 421-yard par 4 nearest-the-pin in two challenge was achieved by Steve F Jones, the only player in the field to do so. Using a 3-wood for his second shot from a bunker 203 yards out, he placed the ball 15 feet from the pin.

The President’s Day results were as follows:

Winner: Islwyn Luke, Prestatyn GC, with 45 points.

Runner-up: Peter Roberts, Padeswood & Buckley GC, with 44 points.

Third place: John Newsome, Rhuddlan GC, with 42 points.

Fourth place: Darrall Sargeant, Prestatyn GC, with 40 points.

Fifth place: Graham Newell, Prestatyn GC, with 39 points on countback.
